We enjoyed a 2 day/1 night excursion with Paloma during our recent trip to SE Asia. As this was quite a pricey excursion our expectations were rather high.

We got picked up at our hotel, and driven to the Halon Bay harbour, which is a bit of a drag, as it takes around 2.5 hrs and it's not the most picturesque part of the country either.

The experience of driving in traffic in Vietnam however is certain to keep you awake, as it's rather hectic.. Once we got to our destination our luggage was taken and we were signed in, and escorted to a small boat which then took us to the Paloma.

There we were received by the staff on-board, and shown our rooms. We booked a double Deluxe cabin, which was of a very reasonable size, very clean and nicely decorated, and comfortable.

Not that we had much time to spend in our room, as we were soon asked to go to the upper deck for a safety briefing, and shortly after, a rather tasty lunch. Then we had time to go on the upper deck and enjoy the amazing views of Halong Bay.

After a couple of hours we anchored at a fishing village, and were treated to a tour, and given the option of canoeing yourself or get rowed around by a local from the village. All very peaceful and calming. Then back to the boat for a delicious dinner, after which there was a party on the upper deck with free drinks and snacks. You really get to relax, watching some of the other boats, and getting to talk to the staff, who were all amazingly helpful and friendly. Cuong, our tour guide, went out of his way to please everyone and keep them all happy, which can't have been easy with so many of us to deal with...

Next morning up at 6.00 for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to practice Tai Chi whilst watching the sun rise over Halong Bay, then breakfast, and off to see the Surprise Cave. Those on a 3 day cruise left on a smaller boat to go and enjoy some BBQ on the beach, whilst the Paloma itself took everyone else back to the harbour.

On the way back we enjoyed another tasty lunch, after which we were dropped off back to our hotel.

All in all an amazing trip, getting to see and experience so many fantastic sights, whilst enjoying excellent food served by extremely friendly and approachable hosts, it just doesn't get any better!

Just wish we'd had time to do the 3 day trip..
