recommendations for old lady traveling in belize?

We are planning a 12 day belize trip next summer for 3 women, 2 young and fit and one senior somewhat decrepit. we are all culturally adventurous and have lived/worked/traveled in the tropics and third world, we're fluent in spanish.

For lodging inland we want mid-price comfortable but exotic, not overrun with kids in July or August. Seriously. Also-more or less level grounds, easy walking paths, few stairs but handrails if there are; pools with handrails or river beach easy to walk to and get into; if no a/c then at least fans for nighttime. a place where guests can hang out during the day, or go into town and shop, while the others are ...ziplining. or whatever.

we are all interested in cuisine, culture, history, and nature preserves. river boats trips and ruins. and relaxing.

i've done a lot of reading and research and seen many vacation videos on you-tube -- lots of gorgeous lodges and activities, not a lot of 'accessibility.' I think we will stay the first couple nights at Black Orchid in Burrell Boom, but anything you can suggest is greatly appreciated.

If you go to Tikal is in the vanguard extended that lead around the ruins, so as not to walk. They also have hotel next to the property. It 'hard to find a flat area in the mountains. Most localities are in the river, which is usually on a slope. It's always a hotel in the town of San Ignacio, which is nice and it's like any other hotel. I recommend you also go to the beach somewhere, then it would be easier to walk. You will have all the time. I too have a young and bad knees.

It's hard to tell from the websites and pictures and reviews how easy it is to walk around the property, how comfortable the grounds and access to the cabin or cottage. But I hope people who have seen the properties will be able to share that information here.
